Arrival in the Bahamas

January 6 and 7, 2007
Hollywood, FL to Mangrove Cay, Bahamas
Departed Port Everglades Inlet at 9:02PM after visiting with new Hylas 54 owners and our dock neighbors at Wilshire Marina. The trip out of the inlet was spectacular with the golden moon rising in front of us while behind us the shimmering lights of Fort Lauderdale and Miami reflected off the ocean. After four miles out the trip across the Gulf Stream changed dramatically. The sea was like water in a washing machine, waves in every direction; we had the main up to steady the boat, but that didn't do much good. It was a long night with us taking two hour watches. We entered the Little Bahama Bank at 10:00AM the next morning greeted by a single Dolphin. The seas calmed a bit and the water turned emerald green. We saw hundreds of flying fish; I am sure another welcoming party. We are in the Bahamas. All is well. Well, until 3:30PM BAM! I was in the main salon and yelled up to Michael to come down something in the engine compartment has gone wrong. Opening the front of the engine compartment released a cloud of black
