We've had an exciting couple days as we moved down Eleuthera on our way South. Both Monday and Tuesday had significant squalls with lightning, high winds and waves. Eleuthera doesn't have very good harbors most of the way either because of no depth for us (7'2"), poor holding, or exposure to the cold front passage winds (that is SouthWest through NorthWest winds). We are now in the Southernmost harbor called Rock Sound that does have good protection and good holding. We do have to anchor a ways off the conventional spots but we had good holding in the squalls. These squalls can be frightening. I know Boris was a basket case and either Ann or I had to physically cradle him through the height of the storms. We first anchored here in a downpour but setting the anchor was no problem with winds gusting to 35 knots as we put it down. Since then we haven't moved from that spot except to swing on the winds and have tolerated two nights of heavy rain, lightening strikes all around.
